Once upon a time, there was a wombat called Belinda. She was a southern, hairy-nosed wombat, because she came from the south, and she had a hairy nose. She had lovely, silky fur and long, pointy ears too, so she was a very pretty wombat indeed.
Belinda lived by herself in a big set of tunnels under the ground, called a warren. It was quite big enough for eight Belinda's, but there was only her and that was how she liked it.
Even though she had a good nose, Belinda couldn't see very well, so she had to sniff for roots and yams to eat instead, but that was all right because Belinda liked to sleep during the day and go hunting at night-time.
Once upon a time there were three black cockatoos called Arthur. They weren't related or anything, they were just very good friends, probably because they were all called Arthur.
One day, the three Arthurs were sitting in a tree somewhere in the middle of the bush, quietly eating their lunch, when one of them saw something in the distance.

Whenever Julian appeared, the bog-ants would rise up on their hind legs and wave their three front ones in the air, hooting and taunting and poor Julian would run away hungry, his ears red from the ants teasing.
Then one day, Julian was walking through the bush country, chewing hopefully on a eucalyptus leaf, when there was a big purpl
Once upon a time there was a beautiful grey bird called Henry. Henry was a Brolga and he had big grey wings and very tall legs and a long, long beak.
Clarissa was a Brolga too and Henry liked Clarissa a lot. She liked Henry as well, but although Clarissa was grey all over just like Henry, she thought he was very plain indeed.
Henry tried everything he could think of to get Clarissa to go out with him, but she was too busy watching Kookaburra, with his pretty blue wings and his lovely laugh, or Rosella with his flashy colours and his cheeky chatter.
Henry caught Clarissa a tasty frog, but she said she was too tired to eat it.
He brought he
