A six-month sub is going begging!

This is your last chance!

Design a sword, as described in this extract from my novel, 'Centauran':

"... as I'd requested, it was a little longer than Corkai's short saw-sword and very slightly curved. A section nearest the haft was toothed on both edges and somewhat recessed so the teeth wouldn't catch on the belt during drawing or sheathing. The blade tapered from thick and sturdy near the haft to a narrow, whippy, rounded point and was waved like my little knife. Two grooves ran down the central spine on both sides, with narrow, darkened runnels tapering to the finely honed edges, each of the runnels with three perfectly even curves, despite the fact they got progressively smaller towards the blade's tip and also had to contend with the slight curve of the weapon itself. As if that wasn't enough, the metal-wound haft was fitted with an ornate hand-guard of shining, twisted spikes and it was only when I tentatively reached out a hand to pick up the sword that I really appreciated the intricacy of the work, which portrayed interwoven mendri vines."

Your prize for the most splendid/accurately portrayed weapon will be a six-month subscription to dA (wholly or in part donatable, as you wish), plus of course exposure in my journal.

All entries will be displayed in a dedicated sub-gallery in my favourites. centauran.deviantart.com/favou…

Submissions: as a link in a note to me.

You may submit as many entries as you wish.

CENTAURAN CONTEST

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 25, 2011, 11:43 PM
My eleventh gay-oriented novel, 'Centauran', is about to reach its serialised ending, so I have decided to set you a task: you will paint for me the 'knife' which Teshshin makes for David.

Your prize for the most splendid/accurately portrayed weapon will be a six-month subscription to dA (wholly or in part donatable, as you wish), plus of course exposure in my journal.

The 'knife' is described in two sections of chapter 27 of 'Centauran' but is mentioned in other chapters also, thus it might be worth your while to read the entire novel (might, I say.) Naturally, this whole contest is a ploy to get you to read at least one of my novels!

All entries will be displayed in a dedicated sub-gallery in my favourites.

Submissions: as a link in a note to me.

Anyone who feels inclined to offer another prize more substantial than just a journal entry will also be eligible to act as judge.

Icky and David

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 14, 2011, 12:54 AM

I am so excited today - I woke up to find my dear friend marthig has made wonderful present for me, an illustration of David and Icky from my novel 'Incubus', aka 'The Swayer of Sankara'

In honour of her work, I've decided I need to change my journal skin and I'm also going to use the image, with her permission, as the preview image for the novel.

I do hope you'll read it - it's great fun, not a lot of nookie and very exciting too!

So - here's a link to part one for those of you who just can't wait!

As a separate issue - I note that I have just posted my one thousand and first deviation. I count it extra significant in that it is a short story, another episode of Red's adventures, the first of which was one of my two DD's!

If you like SF ...

Journal Entry: Mon May 9, 2011, 9:28 PM

I have just started serialising 'Centauran', the novel from which both my dA name and avatar are taken.

It's an SF adventure with - naturally, as I am the author - a gay love-story embedded in the exciting adventure.

You will meet wonderful characters in Ifshi .... and the nastiest monster you have yet encountered.

I will shortly be commencing serialisation of the eleventh of my novels on dA, my seminal work, entitled 'Centauran'. As you might guess, it is the reason for my dA persona and avatar, the image being that of one of the two central characters, Mahrham.

Intro:

David is nearly 16, the son of two scientists of the seeding-colony on Hope, orbiting Alpha-Centauri in the Centauri binary-star system. Life is hard; they have little technology except Fred, the ship’s computer, who controls the colonists’ lives in their secure, moated compound, together with his little sock-eating dusting-robots called ‘snufflers’. David has a tentative sexual encounter with his friend Peter, and is shocked when Peter later goes missing …

Yes, it's another gay love story with a fair bit of nookie, but there's a lot more to this SF adventure, including a monster you would not want to meet!

I do hope you'll be reading it!

Assassin

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 28, 2011, 4:59 PM

Novel number twelve is now complete and like all the others, it is published on Lulu.com for all you eager beavers to buy and enjoy. Here is a brief intro:

"Sent out one morning by his mother to hunt for food, Dav is the only literate member of his small clan, excellent with a game bow, but sadly lacking with axe, sword and pike. He returns laden from his hunt to find his village burning and his family and kin being slaughtered by a group of mounted soldiers led by a witch. Determined to avenge his family, Dav meets a strange creature in the forest and is changed into the fearful, near-invisible thrate, a deadly assassin. What is it the witch seeks and how will Dav and Cil defeat her?"

There is a teaser/preview posted.

Currently serialising is novel number ten, "Hidden Treasure". Up to episode 9, it is classed as horror - you would not want your life to start like Trea's did!

So ... I now have no novel in progress, which means I need a plot .... hmmm ....

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 18, 2011, 2:00 AM

Yes, folks, it's horror time!

I have rebranded 'Hidden Treasure' to its proper category of horror - I was just fooling with the 'family life' thing - wait ''til you find out what happened to poor Trea!

In other news, novel number twelve, entitled 'Assassin', has reached 38,000 words and 120 or so pages - it's going to be a doozy!

Thank you to all who read me, and remember - you can get a pdf download of any of my stories by licking me really hard.

Hidden Treasure

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 2, 2011, 9:59 PM

I have now finished serialising my ninth novel, "Rafe 'n' Me" and will soon commence "Hidden Treasure". Thank you to all who read 'Rafe' - I would appreciate your comments.

This novel is one of my longer, and a radical departure from my usual genre, in that it is not fantasy, but an examination of the human condition. It still contains a great deal of humour, a gay romance (of course) and enough gay nookie to rate it as 'mature - strict'.

The research I was required to do to complete this work was extensive - I will publish the list as an addendum.

Despite the lack of vampires etc, I hope you will enjoy 'Hidden Treasure'. I have published an introduction, which will in fact also constitute the first chapter. If you would like to read it immediately, here is the link: fav.me/dw06t7

Joke

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 25, 2011, 10:26 PM

A firefighter was working on the engine outside the station, when he noticed a little girl in the garden next door, sitting in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The girl was wearing a firefighter's helmet, the wagon being pulled by her dog and her cat.

The firefighter walked over to take a closer look. 'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration.

'Thanks,' the girl replied.

The firefighter looked a little closer; the girl had tied the wagon with ropes to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.

'Um ... little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run
your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think
you would go faster.'

The little girl looked thoughtful, then replied, 'You're probably right, but then I
wouldn't have a siren.'

CONTEST - sort of.

Dénouement - isn't that a lovely word. 'Broomsticks' is about to reach one - the murderer is
about to be revealed. Do you know who it is? You've had clues, little hints, here and there.

If you do know; if you've solved the puzzle, let me know in a note and I'll give you a
three-month sub to dA.

Some time ago, I got an idea for a comic sketch which I couldn't do myself because I am
crap at drawing. However, I found an ally in the wonderful Rathunta I agreed to do a

The Pilcrow and the Interrobang

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 1, 2010, 5:30 PM

Do you know what this is?

       ¶

It's called 'The Pilcrow', otherwise known as the paragraph symbol.

When you're reading literature on dA, you'll notice four symbols at the top left. These are toggle-switches, designed to help you with reading the article.

I suggest that you engage both the 'Style' (aA) and the Pilcrow - these will help enormously with reading my writing!

While we're talking, d'you know this one?

       ‽

It's called 'The Interrobang' or 'quesclamation mark'.

It's used in sentences such as 'You paid how much‽'

If you want to use them yourself, the html codes are (without the space):

       ¶ is & para;

       ‽ is &# 8253;

It's also a gripping whodunnit, with a puzzle for you to solve ... who is Megamind?
